He Removes The Opposition

He Removes The Opposition by Kirk Hunt

Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.

Isaiah 41:11 KJV

I am always the most puzzled by the rage of the opposition.  They see Christians as narrow and overly restrictive?  I disagree, but why all of the rage?

Whatever their reasons, God promises that they will not be able to block you.  As you live the Christian life in spirit and truth, you will advance.  To your destination and work in building the Kingdom.

Keep in mind that you must be living and moving in His purpose.  Your willful action contrary to God’s Word and purpose for your life puts you out there alone.  His protection for your life requires following your purpose for His Kingdom.

As you flow in God, your presence can be convicting (not condemning).  The silent witness of a man or woman seeking Him, can say a lot.  Very loudly.

If your life draws opponents, do not worry.  God is not worried about their anger or blocking actions.  No one can oppose the plans and calling of God.  No committee can vote down God’s anointing and purpose for your life.

Move forward in Him.  Follow your calling and build the Kingdom of God.  He will take care of those who would insert themselves between you and God’s purpose for your life.

Think:            A Christ-like life overpowers opposition through His power, grace and love.

Pray:              “Lord, help me to live like You, especially with my opponents.”

He Is With You

He Is With You by Kirk Hunt

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Isaiah 41:10 KJV

After answering the call, everyone hits that spot.  The corner of limitations and exhaustion, is a scary-looking intersection.  And it is a long way from success.  Even the best of us question our purpose and mission.

Pause for a moment and reach out and touch Him.  He is right there.  Close at hand.

I wish I could assure you that angels will drop the very things you need in your lap.  Instead, you will likely continue in hard work and True Faith™, as you continue your calling.  You will continue your Kingdom building in His power.

His presence means power.  There is clarity when God is close.  Only peace can dwell in His presence.

The task is not any smaller, but His power remains greater.  You will shoulder and move loads using the strength God gives.  You will not fall, because He is holding you up.

Your purpose and mission remain the same.  Your human limitations are not the end of the journey.  The hand of our infinite God will see you through to the end.

Think:            Your power will carry me through to success.

Pray:              “Lord, help me to rely on You to finish my calling.”

Time With Him

Read

Time With Him by Kirk Hunt

And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

Mark 6:31 KJV

Busy schedules can be a sinister, cruel trap.  Yes, the needs are great.  Surely, the opportunities are rich.  Still, below the surface of constant effort, lay the rocks of exhaustion and weariness.

Have you been busy in the Gospel fields?   Do you labor in the marketplace?  Then you are a good servant.

Still, the Master calls you.  He beckons from a quiet place where He can have you to Himself.  There is more to Christianity than labor and striving.

Do not go too many hours without spending time with Him.  Make sure He is in your meeting schedules.  Let His peace and joy flood through your soul on a regular basis.

Are you really His?  When was the last time you sat at His feet?  How long has it been since His presence blanketed your soul?

There will be times and days when you run non-stop.  It becomes all the more important to linger at a quiet place, resting with the Master.  The human mind and heart are not built for constant striving.  The mortal soul is not designed to be away from Him for long.

The lions and giants in your life will wait another few minutes.  Spend some money on a quiet chat with a loving Savior.  It will be a good investment.

Think:            No achievement should interfere with your time alone with Jesus.

Pray:              “Lord, help me to be disciplined about spending time with You.”

Prepare Yourself

Prepare Yourself by Kirk Hunt

And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

Ephesians 6:15 KJV

The work required more physical fitness than I assumed.  Walking 4-6 miles a day, in all kinds of weather.  Climbing in and out of the van.  Lifting the bunk lid to get at my stuff.  My deployment required more endurance, strength and flexibility than you get from just sitting at a desk.

God prepared an opportunity to reach people, but part of my preparation involved strength and aerobic exercises.  My ability to minister depended on going to the gym.  Who knew service involved so much athleticism?

Have you answered God’s call on your life?  Good.  Are you preparing for all aspects of your calling?  I pray you are.  Your full calling will require more than you realize.

Exercise and eating correctly?  Sounds mundane, does it not?  Mundane does not mean unimportant.  If you are going to answer your call, go all the way.

I worked every work day, and even some of my off days.  , I had the physical resources to do so because of my preparation.  My calling deserved nothing less.

Think through all aspects of your calling.  Be prepared for every aspect you know.  Ask God to show you anything you missed.  Your calling deserves no less.

Think:            Preparation for my calling involves a whole life commitment.

Pray:              “Lord, help me to be disciplined in every aspect of my calling.”

Humble Yourself

Read

Humble Yourself by Kirk Hunt

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

James 4:10 KJV

Even I murmured somewhat about the task: “Go door-to-door and explain this flyer.”  I did this kind of work in my youth.  I did not relish doing it again.

Still, I put on my jacket and gloves and marched out into the cold streets.  Not everyone did.  Some in our group were too good, or too important, for the task.  They packed up and went home.

For weeks, I faithfully did my best.  Admittedly, I watched and waited for something worthy of me to materialize.  Viewed through mundane eyes, the task did not qualify as worthy.

The work led us to a homeless shelter that desperately needed food and medical staff.  And to a wife and mother I helped find assistance.  It was my privilege to help restore a man, exhausted from helping others.  Ask them if my task was worthy.

Humility can manifest in many different ways.  I had to humble myself in order to sincerely complete the task, despite my opinion of its value.  Then I was humbled again by the outcome of my work.

The important people missed out.  Glory was hidden in the task.  Importance was disguised in a humble wrapper.

Some of Kingdom work is humble to earthly eyes.  Look with Spirit-filled vision to the glory within.  If you do your part, He will answer with His glory.

Think:            Do the humble work of the Kingdom and God will fill you with His glory.

Pray:              “Lord, help me to humble myself so I can receive Your glory.”

New Creature

New Creature by Kirk Hunt

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV

Welcome to a new year.  Last year had its challenges, losses and wins, but it is past now.  Ready or not, you are in this new year.

The year is not the only thing that is new.  If you are a follower of Christ Jesus, you are new also.  You are being transformed in His image.

The old you had advantages, but the new you is better.  The new you looks more like Him.  This year’s you acts more like Christ.

Each round of Bible study gives you greater understanding.  Each day of fasting gives you greater strength in Him.  Each prayer takes you closer to His mind.

The new you has a new year, full of new opportunities to build His Kingdom.  All it takes is the courage and obedience to exercise yourself.  You can do it, since His power is working in you.

The previous versions of you were good but today you are better.  He has called you to build His Kingdom, using your new abilities, skills and insight.  Follow your calling, knowing that you are better than ever.

Think:            Do my actions reflect that fact that I am a new creation?

Pray:              “Lord, help me to follow my calling and mission in new ways.”

The Ending

The Ending by Kirk Hunt

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

Revelation 22:13 KJV

Welcome to the end of 2012.  The ancient Mayans were wrong.  Still, they had a valid point.

Men and women do not go on forever.  Our society will not go on, as it has, forever.  Only God endures from the beginning to the end.

Do you live your life in the knowledge that you will end?  Do your goals and actions reflect the fact that you will not personally live on, forever?  Are you planning for the time when you are no longer here?

Your finite life is not a gloomy truth.  Recognizing that there is a “there and then” does not mean misery in the “here and now.”  In fact, having a plan for eternity can give a lot of joy and safety to your daily life.

Your life is mortal, but your soul is eternal.  Your everyday actions tell the story of where you place your hope.  You can have impact for generations, if you choose. All it takes is choosing to act today in light of the One who will live forever.

Enjoy the festivities of this year’s end.  Face the coming year with hope, joy and anticipation.  This ending is in preparation for a new beginning.

Think about our eternal Father-God.  What has He called you to do?  Are you fulfilling your part in His eternal plan?

Think:                        Do my actions reflect my finite life, or His eternal plan?

Pray:                         “Lord, help me to answer Your calling on my life.”

Keep Your Hope

Read

Keep Your Hope by Kirk Hunt

This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.   It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

Lamentations 3:21–22 KJV

The Book of Lamentations is a grim and somber part of Scripture.  Jeremiah clearly and forcefully explains the plight and situation of Israel and Judah in Babylonian captivity.  In the center of the text, Jeremiah stops weeping and declares his hope in God’s love, mercy and compassions.

God issued the crushing cold and merciless darkness of His judgment against His people.  Still, in the middle of the gloom and pain is a place of light, warmth and joy.  The God who disciplines us is also the God who loves us.

His love for His people is so great that He restrains justice.  Mercy still has a hand in Israel’s punishment.  God’s grace, despite the captivity, remains part of Judah’s life.

Whatever you are facing, God’s love is still part of your life.  His grace is still at the core of your affairs.  His mercy still has a hand in your circumstances.

Despite the pain.  With the tears.  In the groaning.

His love is never ending.  His love for us is the source of our hope.  No matter how grim and somber our present is, we have hope because we have God.

Do not surrender.  Do not despair.  Despite it all, He loves us and therefore we have hope.

Think:            God’s love for me is the source of my hope.

Pray:              “Lord, help me to have hope in the love you have for me.”

Who Calls For You?

Read

“Who Calls For You?” by Kirk Hunt

And king Solomon sent and fetched Hiram out of Tyre.

1 Kings 7:13 KJV

When Solomon needed a craftsman for the Temple, he wanted, and could afford the best.  He called Hiram, a man of mixed heritage, from the nation of Tyre.  How Solomon heard of Hiram, Scripture does not say.

Selected and called by the king, Hiram took his place as the lead of all of Israel’s craftsmen.  Hiram had a hand in designing and building all of the decorations, fittings, implements and even furnishings of the Temple.  Quite a call to service.

God has a calling for you.  Your name may not be in the diplomatic messages of nations (see 2 Chronicles 2) but it will come up.  How will you answer?

Scripture says Hiram “was filled with wisdom, and understanding, and cunning.”  How did Hiram gain all of these qualities and skills?  Scripture is silent on that point.

What matters is that when the call came Hiram answered.  God had seen to it that Hiram had the skills and abilities needed to fulfill his assignment.  When God’s call comes, you will have the qualifications you need.

Your willing head and hands are the main thing.  If your heart and mind are determined to serve Him, He will take care of the rest.  When the call comes, give the right answer.

Think:             Will I be obedient to God’s call on my life?

Pray:              “Lord, help me to answer Your call.”

Will You Go?

Read

Will You Go? by Kirk Hunt

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

Isaiah 6:8 KJV

The call came at 6 am, Friday.  By 6 pm, that same day, I was making one-way flight reservations.  With 400 others, I flew to help with recovery from Hurricane Sandy.

Our jobs are mundane and unglamorous.   We walk for miles and knock on doors.  We repeat the same information, over-and-over.  We ask the same questions, time-and-again.

The purpose remains noble.  We concerned ourselves with the health and well-being of people we may never see again.  The long hours and cramped troop ship bunks are humbling.

Still, their faces will remain with me.  The husband concerned about his invalid wife.  The father, frantic about the sea wall, destroyed by the storm waters.  The mother, worried about food for her kids, and work for her husband.

God’s call is not always about the thousands and millions.  Sometimes, it is about the twos and threes.  And about being the one who is willing to go and serve.

Do not concern yourself with your qualifications, or your provision.  Be alert for His voice.  His hand will supply what is needed.

Your calling may be unremarkable and unseen, but it remains important.  Be willing to be sent.  “Send me.”

Think:            When God calls for servants, will I be obedient to the call?

Pray:              “Lord, help me to be an obedient servant who answers Your call.”

You Are Not Lunch

Read

You Are Not Lunch by Kirk Hunt

David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

1 Samuel 17:37 KJV
Please, read 17:22–57.

Israel’s soldiers did not want to face Goliath.  Just his extraordinary size made him a formidable opponent.  His superior arms and armor, on top of known skill-at-arms, made battle with him a fearful proposition.

David had faced, and overcome, fearsome opponents before.  His faith and conviction swayed even King Saul, an extraordinary warrior in his own right.  Still, a mere boy without conventional weapons, or any armor, challenged the champion of the Philistines.  “I will feed you to the birds, boy.”

The hellhound is happy to see me.  It drools with the anticipation of a delicious lunch.  “I will feed you to myself, boy.”

I triple-check the buckles of my faith.  I rehearse the victories God has already given me.  I un-holster my Bible.  I run toward the stench of brimstone.

Here in the real world, circumstances arise that are too much for mere men.  As a son or daughter of the living God, victory has been promised.  No matter how formidable your hellhound seems, God has success planned for you.

Armor up in faith.  Wield your Bible.  In the Name of the living God, you are victorious.  Since God is with you, you are not lunch.

Think:            My victory comes through God’s power.

Pray:              “Lord, help me remember that I am already victorious through Your power.”

Going Old School

Read

Going Old School by Kirk Hunt

Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

Jeremiah 6:16 KJV

As I research strength training exercises (lifts) I have discovered two different viewpoints.  One camp searches for ever faster, more “efficient” routines and techniques.  The other guys focus on classic, “old school” lifts.

The “scientists” want a faster, smarter (less sweaty) way to results.  The “grunters,” argue that the classic methods are the smartest way, but you will have to be patient.  I have decided on a path.

Old school requires less equipment.  The focus on quality over quantity makes you less prone to injury.  Of course, you must take your time and focus on the process.

Jeremiah called out to Israel.  God called His people back to His love and covenant.  Of course, Israel had a choice.  They could continue on the pagan road and its results.  Or they could choose the old path with God.

God calls to you.  He offers the power, blessing and peace that can only come from relationship with Him.  Of course, that requires Bible study, prayer and fasting.  God’s path requires that you take your time and focus on the process.  I pray you decide on the old path.

Think:            The path to God is the smarter way, even if you have to be patient.

Pray:              “Lord, help me choose the path that leads most securely back to You.”
